The Don’ts of Essential Oils…

EODONT

While always sharing the “DO’s” of Essential Oils, I feel it also necessary to share the “DONTs” as well.   Please read through these for your safety and effective use of essential oils..

  • DON’T expose essential oils to sunlight, excessive heat, or moisture.
  • DON’T place or use near cell phones and gadgets with high electromagnetic interference.
  • DON’T touch the opening of the bottle (Orifice), instead drop oils from 3” away from palm or surface.
  • DON’T forget to see how your oils can be used (Topically, Ingestible, etc)
  • DON’T drop essential oils into ears and avoid contact with eyes.
  • DON’T use water if there is a persistent burning or the oil is “HOT”, this will only make it worse.  Always use a carrier oil for sensitive skin and young children.
  • DON’T use plastic or Styrofoam cups if you plan on drinking water with essential oils.  Due to the high concentration of the oil it can melt or damage them.
  • DON’T touch your keyboards if you have oils on your fingers, the print will rub off.   It can even melt nail polish.
  • Use a ceramic spoon when you stir your oils into water or swirl your glass instead.
  • DON’T overuse essential oils… a little goes a long way.   Overuse can also result in negative side effects.

Please please! Do your research on how to apply and use your essential oils.   They are easy to use and a safer alternative to most synthetic drugs on the market.   They are natural and use of essential oils trace back to ancient man.  But Safety should always be first.   When introducing essential oils to your body, it is best to only try one at a time to see how you react to it.   If applying topically, try it on a small spot of the skin (the inside of the elbow) and see if your skin is sensitive to it.   Always have a carrier oil handy, there are examples in one of my previous posts.  Remember good essential oils are pure, highly concentrated oils… a little truly goes a long way and they are very powerful thus resulting in some reactions to plastics etc.  Always store essential oils in a cool, dry place and keep out of reach of little hands.

Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

Combining Reflexology Points and Essential Oils!

Combining Reflexology and Essential Oils can have a powerful effect and can act quicker (sometimes within minutes of application!). Your feet are the quickest route to apply essential oils because the pores on the bottoms of our feet are larger and open.

Remember when applying EO's topically that you know which oils are Neat or "Gentile" and which oils are HOT and may cause skin irritation. Some examples of HOT oils are cinnamon, basil, oregano, clove, cypress and wintergreen. Always have a carrier oil handy especially with children. Carrier oil will dilute the Essential Oil (EO) and take the "Heat". Carrier Oil examples include but not limited to: Fractionated Coconut Oil, Sunflower Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, and if you dont have any of those on hand, you can use extra virgin olive oil from your kitchen cabinet.

Wild About Orange!

Wild Orange offers one of the most dynamic fragrances of essential oils. The combined, proven antifungal, antibacterial, and antidepressant properties make it one of the most powerful and aromatic oils to use. It is excellent for disinfecting and killing fungus and pathogens, while relieving stress. It can be both energizing and uplifting, while being sedative by instilling feelings of peace. It is used in the treatment of anorexia, and has been used as an anti-cancer agent. It is highly recommended for use during the early stages of cold and flu.

Application

Diffuse Wild Orange for its effectiveness killing airborne pathogens, and enjoy its incredible aroma while it disinfects and kills bacteria. It is a great oil to diffuse in a car during long trips. Orange essential oil is certified by the FDA to be GRAS and 1-2 drops in ¼ cup of water can be taken internally for acid reflux or heartburn. Use topically for a stress relief massage. Use in a spray bottle to spritz bed sheets or as a fragrant pathogen killing spray in bathrooms and kitchens. Use with a carrier oil to sooth an infant’s tummy. What are essential oils?

Essential oils are aromatic volatile liquids distilled from shrugs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes and seeds. The chemistry of essential oils is very complex; each one may consist of hundreds of different and unique chemical compounds. Moreover, essential oils are highly concentrated and far more potent than dried Herbs. The distillation process is what makes the essential oils so concentrated. It often requires an entire plant or more to product a single drop of distilled essential oil!!

If you have ever enjoyed the gift of a rose, a walk by a field of lavender, or the smell of fresh cut mint, you have experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. In addition to giving plants their distinctive smells, essential oils provide plants with protection against predators and disease and play a role in plant pollination.

Essential oils are used for a very wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications. They can be used a single oil at a time or in complex blends depending on user experience and desired benefit. Essential oils are usually administered by one of three methods: diffused aromatically, applied topically, or taken internally as dietary supplements.
